A Summer Poem

I am told that Summer ends a month earlier in Heber than the rest of Utah. How disappointing. So as I looked out the window this morning at the drizzly September sky I got to wondering: perhaps if I gave Summer a worthy tribute it would come back a little sooner next year. No need for a rebuttal this time because even Joey can't deny that a Heber Summer is a glorious thing.

 Ode to Summer's Passing

Farewell, Fair Summer.
You who make the flow'rs to bloom
The birds to sing
Sweet life resume.

My ropes are frayed
My bike tires worn
My playful summer heart reborn.

You who with star-spangled banner wave
In mem'ry of our loved ones brave.

No longer shall I go to bed
With dreams of barbeques in my head.

Farewell, Fair Summer.
You who make the campfire glow
My heart delight
With canoes to row.

For now the swimming pool is closed
The rain and frost come unopposed.

The days grow short
It's sad, but then,
At least I'm not the pig
In our neighbor's pen.....

Thanks for the fun times Summer. Come back soon!

  2. You say your bike tires are worn. How many times did you ride this summer? ;)
