Goal #38: Try 30 new recipes

25/30 - Salsa

For some reason the idea of making my own salsa from scratch has always intimidated me. So when I tried some of the most delicious and non-heart-burning homemade salsa I have ever eaten I decided it was time for me to pony up and make some of my own. I got the recipe from a church friend and it took approximately 3 minutes for me to recreate it. Quick, delicious, and non-heart-burning. That is my kind of salsa.

26/30 - BBQ Bacon Chicken

This recipe came from my Six Sisters cookbook. I generally haven't been very impressed with the recipes in here, but Joey likes bacon and I like chicken and this was an easy recipe and it made our house smell good. But it wasn't good enough to eat the leftovers and we ended up throwing the rest out for the chickens. Cannibals.

27/30 - Monster Brownies

I knew I had this McGovern Halloween party to prepare for, so a couple weeks out I started perusing Halloween edition magazines in the checkout lines of grocery stores. I found this particular recipe in a Martha Stewart Living magazine. It just takes brownies and broken Oreos (or other cream-filled cookies), with white frosting and red sprinkles for eyes. Nothing fancy, but I thought it turned out pretty fun.

28/30 - Mandarin Orange Pumpkins

This isn't really a recipe, I know. But it is an appetizer and it was new to me and I thought it was brilliant. I just peeled a bunch of mandarins and stuck a green Mike and Ike in the center for the stem, though I suppose I could have used any manner of green or brown food for the stem (celery or chocolate-covered anything, for instance).
