Goal #50: Attend 5 non-religious community events (4/5)
4/5 - Vietnamese New Year
I'm really delighted about this one. While
we were in Oceanside my sweet friend Becky invited me and the girls to join her
family for a Vietnamese New Year celebration. I decided it would be best to
bring just one of the girls and Sadie was the lucky girl who got to come with
me. She had just watched Enchanted earlier that day and kept telling me that
dragons were scary, so I was a little concerned about the upcoming festivities.
So as we walked around the courtyard waiting for the procession to start, and
the traditional dragons started to dance around, I had to tell Sadie that they
were dancing lizards. Surprisingly that worked and she actually let me get
close to the lizards. We ate some tasty Vietnamese food and watched some cute
Vietnamese dancers in their traditional costume, and my sweet, blond,
curly-haired, white toddler ran back and forth from the stage collecting
confetti and eating peas and noodles off of Becky's sister's plate, and we just
had ourselves a grand old time. So Happy New Year, everybody!
