Goal #38: Try 30 new recipes (6 & 7/30)
6/30 - Beef Stew
Remember Fonzy Cow and the broth I made with his leftover chopped
pieces? I put it to good use with this soulwarming
beef stew. I don't love beef stew but it seemed like the right thing to make on
a chilly fall evening and it turned out better than I expected. The real sign
of success was that both of the girls ate a full serving of the stew. Or at
least the carrots and potatoes. That's a win for me!
7/30 - Chocolate frosting
Anyone who has ever made chocolate frosting knows that this is one of
the easiest recipes in the history of recipes, and anyone who has ever made
chocolate frosting probably made it for the first time when they were in preschool
because it's that easy. I, however, don't like chocolate frosting and therefore
never had any reason to make it until I married a McGovern. Apparently, in
order to get a McGovern to eat your cake it must be a chocolate one and it must
be dripping in chocolate frosting. So when I made Emma's birthday cupcakes I
followed this unspoken- no, clearly spoken- rule and made chocolate frosting
for my first time, using the McGovern chocolate frosting recipe. It probably
looks just like the Adams chocolate frosting recipe or every other chocolate
frosting recipe. I didn't even taste-test it to make sure it was right. I
simply didn't care. I was told it tasted as delicious as chocolate frosting
should, so there's that.
